That remarkably describes the exact situation with the recent Texas hurricane.<br /><br />The very odd and very incriminating sign was that overnight retail gas prices went up from <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">approximately</span> $3.64 to $3.94 <span style="font-weight: bold;">nationwide</span>! Not only does that signal <span style="font-weight: bold;">price gouging</span> it shows a very strange similarity to <span style="font-weight: bold;">price fixing</span>.<br /><br /><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Wikipedia</span> also states that "Price fixing is an agreement between business competitors to sell the same product or service at the same price. In general, it is an agreement intended to ultimately push the price of a product as high as possible, leading to profits for all the sellers." Does anyone dispute that the large oil companies have experienced record setting profits.<br /><br />My big question is this "Why is the government allowing this to happen"? Have we so lost our will to fight the big fight against rampant corruption that we have simply given up and allow <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">ourselves</span> to be taken advantage of at least once a week with just a low mumbling grumble at the gas pump.<br /><br />Who and what is behind this inability to act in the face obvious 'irregularities'.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/9805518-6042051879316112544?l=ticked-off.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Webmasternoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9805518.post-49116791639731938502008-08-05T07:35:00.000-07:002008-08-05T07:43:39.794-07:00People are blaming the big oil companies for high prices and do not like them. Now <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0"><strong>there's</strong></span> a revelation. You're ticked off at the oil companies? Why would anyone want to <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">criticize</span> those environmental humanitarians?<br /><br />They are only in business to provide goods and services to the consumer. They are a "for profit" company that provides a needed and wanted product. Is it soo bad that they want to make a modest profit?
